Artefacts, 2013
»Artefacts« is an on-going photographic series, where Daniel Hoflund depicts objects of cultural and historical interest. These photographs of ancient, exotic and valuable pieces are presented in a similar tradition to catalogues and books of museums and auction houses. All motifs included in Hoflund’s »Artefacts« are however found in thrift shops, flea- and second hand markets. These idealized photos of cheap copies, souvenirs, low material, kitsch and forgotten rubbish points to definitions of value, history writing, heritage, national (re)presentation, preservation and museology.
